Zusammenfassung:The present invention relates to the fields of biotechnology and medicine. In particular it describes the use of anti-CD6 monoclonal antibodies that specifically bind to CD6 domain 1 in the prevention of the hyper-inflammatory response that is triggered by medical procedures resulting from the passage of blood through an extracorporeal circuit. The anti-CD6 antibodies of the present invention show a reduction in the degree of hyper-inflammation through a lower concentration of IL-6, CRP and LDH; with the consequent prevention of cellular and organ damage.
