METHOD FOR OPERATING AN ELECTROSURGICAL GENERATOR AND ELECTROSURGICAL GENERATOR

It is disclosed a method (100) for operating an electrosurgical generator (10) and an according electrosurgical generator. The electrosurgical generator is configured to supply power to an electrosurgical instrument (11). The electrosurgical generator is identifiable by a serial number (12) and comprises at least two modules (20, 20'). The modules (20, 20') are embodied as hardware modules and/or as software modules. Each of the modules has a functionality according to an operation mode which is at least partially specified by a license key. In an initializing process of the electrosurgical generator, identification information being indicative of a serial number (12) is available or is made available (101) at at least one of the modules and license information being indicative of a license key is available or is made available (102) at at least one of the modules. Each of the modules provides (103) any of the identification information and the license information being available or being made available to it to at least one other of the modules. At least one of the modules generates (104) a link of the identification information and the license information and provides (105) the generated link to each of the other modules. Each of the modules stores (106) the generated link. The invention provides a beneficial method for operating an electrosurgical generator, which makes use of an existing modular design of the generator to provide the modules of the electrosurgical generator with information about a customized scope of functionality for them to provide.
