Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for operating an exhaust gas sensor in an exhaust gas tract of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. The exhaust gas sensor (10) has a ceramic sensor element (12) with at least one measuring electrode (16, 18) and a heating device (32). The method comprises determining at least one indicator on the basis of data relating to the internal combustion engine and the exhaust gas sensor (10), said indicator indicating whether the occurrence of liquid water in the exhaust gas tract is still to be expected, comparing the determined indicator with a predefined indicator threshold value, and at least partially additional heating of the exhaust gas tract if the determined indicator exceeds the indicator threshold value.
