According to the invention, the locking element (12) has a first locking portion (120A) and a second locking portion (120B) and is movably mounted on the housing such that optionally either the first locking portion (120A) or the second locking portion (120B) can be brought into a position in which it can be locked relative to the housing (10) with a mating locking element (22) of the mating connector (2).
