A retaining member (218) is associated with a proximal end portion (226) of an elongated body (204) of the package (202), the retaining member (218) holding the proximal end section (22) of the extendable urinary catheter (20) as the proximal and distal end sections (22.24) of the extendable urinary catheter (20) are pulled apart to slide relative to one another, thereby moving the extendable urinary catheter (20) into an extended configuration.
