The method comprises: first, determining whether a target video is of a preset video type, wherein the preset video type is a video type that supports playback only once for each user; if it is determined that the target video is of the preset video type, determining whether a video state identifier of the target video is an identifier of being played, wherein the video state identifier is used for representing whether the target video recorded in a server is in the state of being played for the current user; and then, if it is determined that the video state identifier is not the identifier of being played, playing the target video. In the embodiments of the present disclosure, by means of determining, on the basis of the playing state of a target video, which is recorded in a server, for the current user, whether the target video is played in the current terminal, the playing effect of a video, which flickers, is guaranteed, thereby improving the experience of the user watching the video.
