Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a gas diffusion layer for an electrochemical cell, having a contacting unit and a metal unit which is arranged at or on the contacting unit. With respect to a main surface with a defined thickness (d), the metal unit has a plurality of projections which are substantially perpendicular to the main surface. At least one opening is formed on at least one side surface or top surface of the plurality of projections of the metal unit. Each elongation of the plurality of projections is at least three times the thickness (d) of the metal unit.
