Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a high pressure pump (1) for a fuel injection system, comprising at least one pump element (2) having a pump piston (3) which can be moved back and forth and which is received in a cylinder bore (4) at one end and supported on a camshaft (6), for example via a roller tappet (5), at the other end, wherein a piston sealing ring (8) is inserted in an end portion (7) of the cylinder bore (4) that faces the camshaft (6), which piston sealing ring is directly or indirectly axially supported on an annular projection (9) which delimits the end portion (7). According to the invention, the cylinder bore (4) has, in the region of the annular projection (9), a diameter (D1) which is equal to or greater than a diameter (D2) in the region of an opening (10) at the end of the cylinder bore (4).
