Zusammenfassung:The present invention provides an improved process for the preparation of Alfaxalone compound of structural Formula I and, which is simple, ecofriendly, cost effective and commercially viable. More particularly the present invention provides a process for preparation of compound of structural Formula I by reacting compound of structural Formula III with a reducing agent to give a mixture of diastereoisomeric compound of structural Formula II. Then separating diastereoisomeric compound of structural Formula II by chromatographic technique to get compound of structural Formula I.
