Zusammenfassung:	The present invention discloses a method for recommending an intelligent electronic device (lED) from a plurality of lEDs connected in a communication network of a substation with a computing system. The computing system is communicatively connected in the communication network of tire substation for transmitting a configuration of at least one application function to the IED for operating an electrical equipment in the substation. The method for recommending the IED comprises using a virtual model of the IED to generate the IED configurations through a simulation. The computing system uses the configurations generated by the virtual model and protection scheme received from customer device to identify applications functions that, protect the substation according to the protection scheme. IED configured with the identified application function having highest performance metrics is recommended to the customer de vice.
