Zusammenfassung:The contamination detection in electrical assemblies (1) is to be simplified and improved. For this purpose, a method is proposed for checking an electrical assembly (1) for contamination with the following steps: applying a luminescent coating (5) to the electrical assembly (1); applying electromagnetic radiation to the electrical assembly (1); detecting the electromagnteic radiation emitted by the luminescent coating (5); evaluating the detected electromagnetic radiation; generating a reaction depending on a result of the evaluation; wherein an irradiation unit (6) for applying the electromagnetic radiation to the electrical assembly (1) is comprised by the electrical assembly (1), and wherein a sensor unit (7) for detecting the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the luminescent coating (5) is comprised by the electrical assembly (1). In particular, the degree of contamination of the electrical assembly (1) can be more easily and economically inferred via the illumination of a fluorescent coating (5) of the electrical assembly (1) and the detection and evaluation of the afterglow of the fluorescent coating (5).
