Such targets may be used as targets for high power pulsed laser beams to produce proton 11B fusion reactions. BNNT fusion targets having as additives a hydrogen storage compound (such as ammonia borane) and a high atomic weight element (such as xenon), and methods for making the same, are disclosed.
