Zusammenfassung:	A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, comprising at least a first and a second downstream amplifier stage; a first signal path comprising a first equalizer and a second signal path comprising a second equalizer between the first and the second amplifier stage; a switch configured to connect the first equalizer or the second equalizer to be used between the first and the second amplifier stage; a sampling circuit configured to provide a first sampling signal associated with the first signal path and a second sampling signal associated with the second signal path from an output of the second amplifier stage; and a control unit configured to control the switch to connect the first signal path or the second signal path to be used between the first and the second amplifier stage based on said first and second sampling signals.
