An elevator system (1) comprising: an elevator car (5) which is movably accommodated in an elevator shaft (4) and is in particular driven by means of a main drive (6); a safety brake (9), wherein the safety brake (9) can be switched between a standby position and a braking position, and wherein the safety brake brings the elevator car (5) to a standstill in the braking position; and an auxiliary drive (7) having a recovery supporting means (75), in particular a pull-based recovery supporting means or a push-based recovery supporting means (55), designed for temporary load transfer with a recovery connection (55) of the elevator car (5), wherein the elevator system (1) is designed in such a way that, according to an operating state of the recovery connection (55), the safety brake (9) is switched from the braking position to the standby position.
