Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for detecting a limitation of a fuel pump, which has multiple pump elements, of a common rail system, having the steps of determining a monitoring time period in the form of a largely whole-number multiple of a pump period of the fuel pump and an injection period of the combustion engine; detecting a pressure signal in a common rail system storage unit connected downstream of the fuel pump or integrated therein over the monitoring time period; transforming the output signals detected during the monitoring time period into the frequency range in order to obtain a frequency spectrum; analyzing the frequency spectrum for a characteristic deviation from an expected frequency spectrum; and outputting an error signal and/or storing an error signal in an error storage unit if the characteristic deviation is ascertained.
