Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to a method and to a measuring arrangement for examining the surface of a rod-shaped article of the tobacco processing industry, comprising: a provisioning apparatus for rod-shaped articles; a conveyor apparatus having at least one receptacle for rod-shaped articles, an illumination device for illuminating the surface of a rod-shaped article; a camera which is designed and arranged for recording the surface of the rod-shaped article; and a polarisation device for reliably and metrologically separating glossy materials on a white or light background. The polarisation device is designed and set up to generate linearly polarised light, the measuring arrangement preferably has at least two polarisation devices, and in particular the polarisation angles of the polarisation devices differ from one another, and in particular are offset by 90° or 45°.
