Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a device 1 for reducing the number of active microorganisms 2 in fluids, comprising at least one flow region 3 through which the fluid can flow. The flow region 3 comprises at least one antimicrobial component 5 for inactivating microorganisms 2 and at least one retention component 4 for decreasing the flow speed of the microorganisms 2. The invention additionally relates to a method in which the fluid flows through at least one flow region 3 and in the process flows past at least one antimicrobial component 5 and at least one retention component 4, wherein the flow speed of the microorganisms 2 in the flow region 3 is reduced at the retention component 4 such that the microorganisms 2 are inactivated by the antimicrobial component 5.
