HIGH-PRESSURE POLYMERIZATION SYSTEM AND HIGH-PRESSURE POLYMERIZATION PROCESS FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF ETHYLENICALLY UNSATURATED MONOMERS

A high-pressure polymerization system comprising a) a polymerization reactor and b) a reactor blow down system comprising b1) a reactor blow down vessel, which has an essentially circular design over a major portion P having a L/D-ratio of 1.5 or more and which contains an aqueous quenching medium, b2) release lines connecting the polymerization reactor with the reactor blow down vessel and comprising outlets located above a maximum level for the aqueous quenching medium, and b3) first emergency valves in the release lines to open and close a fluid communication between the polymerization reactor and the reactor blow down system, wherein the outlets each have a joining piece having an angle (α) between the central axis and a tangent at the reactor blow down vessel in the range from 5° to 70°.
