METHOD FOR RECYCLING THE LINING MATERIAL OF AN ELECTROLYSIS CELL CATHODE ASSEMBLY AND DEVICE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION THEREOF

A recycling method in which spent lining material is extracted by cutting an access opening into the bottom part of a side wall of the shell of an electrolysis cell cathode assembly, removing the brick lining at the bottom of the side wall of the pedestal, extracting non-graphitic carbon, conveying same to the installation site of a cathode assembly of the electrolysis cell and pouring the non-graphitic carbon into said cathode assembly. The spent lining material is extracted by means of the reciprocating movement of a device for recycling spent lining materials. Said device for recycling spent lining materials is configured in the form of a screw-type working member which moves through the access opening into the cathode assembly of the electrolysis cell along a cantilevered guiding support for a roller with the aid of a carriage which has a bucket conveyor disposed in the centre part thereof for moving the extracted material from the outlet end of the screw conveyor into a bin disposed behind the bucket conveyor.
