The heating device includes a radiant heat source and a heated member such that the radiant heat source applies radiant energy to the heated member and the heated member is positioned within a vessel. The radiant energy from the radiant heat source is radiated across an empty or gas-filled gap between the radiant heat source and the heated member and the heated member transfers heat to the liquid.
