Zusammenfassung: | The disclosure is directed to a process for producing monochloroacetic acid from glycolic acid comprising contacting a liquid medium comprising glycolic acid and water with a hydrogen chloride-containing gas stream, resulting in the formation of a liquid medium into which hydrogen chloride has been absorbed, and reacting the glycolic acid with the absorbed hydrogen chloride at a temperature of from about 120 °C to about 180 °C and at an absolute pressure of from about 0.5 MPa to about 2 MPa, wherein the hydrogen chloride-containing gas stream is provided during at least part of the absorption step and at least part of the reaction step in a continuous manner or intermittently in at least 2 portions. |
