Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to a spinel glass ceramic from a composition comprising the following components: 25 to 50 wt.% of SiO2, 10 to 35 wt.% of Al2O3, 1 to 15 wt.% of MgO, 1 to 15 wt.% of P2O5, 1 to 25 wt.% of ZrO2 and/or TiO2, 0 to 20 wt.% of La2O3, 0 to 10 wt.% of B2O3, and 0 to 15 wt.% of additives. The spinel glass ceramic contains at least one spinel phase, but no high quartz mixed crystal phase. The glass ceramic according to the invention has a very high mechanical stability, e.g. a very high bending strength, while being at the same time adjustable with respect to its optical properties. In addition, the present invention also relates to a method for the production and the use of the spinel glass ceramic. Moreover, the present invention relates to a shaped dental product containing the spinel glass ceramic.
