Zusammenfassung:	An apparatus (101) for measuring contact stresses between the apparatus (101) and soil (2) in contact with the apparatus (101). The apparatus (101) includes an inner body (102) defining an impermeable volume (105). The inner body (102) has an outer face for contacting soil (2) and one or more side walls (104). Strain sensors are arranged on the side walls (104) for measuring strain on the side walls (104). An outer body (108) at least partially surrounds the inner body (102) and at least part of the outer body (108) is spaced from the side walls (104) of the inner body (102) to define a cavity (109). Part (110) of the outer body (108) is porous and is arranged to permit fluid to pass through the porous part (110) of the outer body (108) into the cavity (109).
