Zusammenfassung:	A method is disclosed of shielding a part from a coating application, including: layering a stencil against a part first area so that a stencil vacuum side faces the part first area and a stencil coatable side faces away from the part first area, wherein the part first area defines a part first contour that is non-planar, and a stencil first area defines a stencil first contour that is non-planar and conforms with the part first area, whereby the stencil vacuum side is uniformly positioned adjacent to the part; fluidly communicating vacuum pressure between the stencil and the part via a first vacuum port formed in the stencil, thereby forming a vacuum seal between the stencil and the part; and applying a surface coating to the part so that the surface coating is received over a part coatable area of the part exposed by the stencil coatable side.
