The invention relates to a cleaning device (110) for cleaning an item (112) to be cleaned, in particular an item (112) to be cleaned having at least one hollow space, in particular vessels and in particular bottles (121). The cleaning device (110) comprises at least one cleaning chamber (114) for receiving the item (112) to be cleaned, as well as at least one application device (126) for applying the item (112) to be cleaned with at least one cleaning fluid (127) in the cleaning chamber (114). The application device (126) has at least one tank (128) for receiving cleaning fluid (127), as well as at least two nozzle units (130) accommodated in the cleaning chamber (114). The cleaning device (110) also comprises at least one rinsing basket receiving means (116) for receiving at least one rinsing basket (118), optionally with a nozzle system (122) integrated in the rinsing basket (118) in the cleaning chamber (114). The cleaning device further comprises at least one fluid connection (124) arranged in the cleaning chamber (114) for fluidically coupling the nozzle system (122) of the rinsing basket (118) to the application device (126) when introducing the rinsing basket (118) into the cleaning chamber (114). The cleaning device (110) further comprises at least one controller (132), wherein the controller (132) is designed to switch automatically between at least two application modes, wherein exclusively the nozzle units (130) are supplied with cleaning fluid (127) from the tank (128) in at least one first application mode, and wherein at least the nozzle system (122) of the rinsing basket (118) is supplied with cleaning fluid (127) from the tank (128) in at least one second application mode.
