An electroactive gel layer is disposed on the electrically conductive layer and includes an electroactive component dispersed in a polymeric matrix. The electroactive gel layer may include at least one electrochromic component. Also provided is an electro-optic assembly and method of making that includes a cathodic sub-assembly and an anodic sub-assembly.
