Zusammenfassung:	A method of preparing a feed ration (20) for an animal (22) includes storing a cut crop material in an accumulation having an oxygen barrier. The cut crop material is fermented within the accumulation to form a silage material (38). A nutritive value of the silage material (38) is determined with a nutrition sensor (58). A desired amount of maceration of the silage material (38) is determined based on the determined nutritive value of the silage material (38). The silage material (38) is then macerated with a mechanical macerator (40) to achieve the desired amount of maceration. The macerated silage material (38) is then combined with other feed materials (24) to define the feed ration (20), and may then be fed to the animal (22).
