TRANSPORTING A MESSAGE FROM AN INDUSTRIAL END DEVICE OVER AN ETHERNET NETWORK

A method (100) for transporting a message (4) from an end device (1) in an industrial plant (2) over an Ethernet network (3) with extended functionality (3*) for time-sensitive communication, comprising the steps of:* obtaining (110), by an enabler component (11) of the end device (1), the message (4) from a control application (12) of the end device (1);* mapping (120), by the enabler component (11), based at least in part on the content of the message (4), and/or on a path through which the message (4) is delivered to the enabler component (11), the message to at least one functionality (3*) for time-sensitive communication that is to be used when transporting the message (4) over the Ethernet network (3);* converting (130), by the enabler component (11), the message (4) into one or more Ethernet frames (5);* encoding (140), by the enabler component (11), in at least one of said one or more Ethernet frames (5), a request (3**) to transport the message (4) according to at least one functionality (3*) for time-sensitive communication;* transmitting (150), by the enabler component (11), the one or more Ethernet frames (5) onto the Ethernet network (3);* decoding (160), by at least one network device (31) of the Ethernet network (3), the request (3**); and* forwarding (170), by the at least one network device (31), the message on the Ethernet network (3) according to the requested functionality (3*) for time-sensitive communication.
