In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving external information related to a route being taken by a vehicle containing an antenna for use in wireless communication; and proactively switching from a first communication connection to a second communication connection before reaching a location on the route that the vehicle is expected to pass at a future time and at which the first communication connection is expected to be unavailable.
