Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine (1), which has at least one cylinder (2) into which fresh air is introduced during a working cycle of the internal combustion engine (1) in order to achieve a particular setpoint volumetric efficiency. Provision is made here for the setpoint volumetric efficiency to be limited to a maximum volumetric efficiency, which is set to a first preset value upon starting of the internal combustion engine (1) and is increased in the direction of a second preset value after the starting of the internal combustion engine (1). The invention furthermore relates to an internal combustion engine (1).
