Zusammenfassung:	The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a rubber composition for a tire tread which, when incorporated in a tire, provides excellent wet performance and rolling performance, and which has excellent processability; and a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition for a tire tread. This rubber composition for a tire tread contains: a conjugated diene rubber containing 20% by mass or more of a specific conjugated diene rubber produced by a conjugated diene rubber production method including a specific step; silica containing 20% by mass or more of a specific silica having a CTAB-adsportion specific surface area of 170 m2/g or more; and a silane coupling agent. The silica content is 30 parts by mass or more relative to 100 parts by mass of the conjugated diene rubber. The silane coupling agent content is 3 to 40% by mass relative to the silica content.
