SPENT CARTRIDGE DETECTION METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AN ELECTRONIC SMOKING ARTICLE

The present disclosure relates to a smoking article (10) comprising a control body (80) including a power source (40) and a control component (20) adapted to control power delivery from the power source (40); and a cartridge (90) configured to removeably engage the control body and including a heating connection (165) comprising a heating element (50) arranged to heat an aerosol precursor composition to form an aerosol in response to power received from the power source (40); wherein the control component (20) is configured to output a first electrical current flow comprising a first set of conditions from the power source (40) when the control body (80) and the cartridge (90) are engaged, the first electrical current flow configured to enable a command for authorization of the cartridge; and output, in response to draw on a mouthend (11) of the cartridge (90), a second electrical current flow comprising a second set of conditions from the power source (40), the second electrical current flow configured to result in heating the heating element (50) to a temperature sufficient to heat the aerosol precursor composition to form the aerosol.
