Zusammenfassung: | A motor-vehicle braking system comprises a vacuum-operated assistance device, or booster (25) which includes a vacuum pump (7) driven by the motor-vehicle engine (8) for communicating a vacuum to a chamber (26) of the assistance device. The system further comprises a control valve (V) interposed along the fluid communication line (6) between the pump (7) and the chamber (26). The control valve (V) is in its first operative condition, in which the inlet side of the vacuum pump (7) communicates with the chamber (26) of the assistance device, when the pressure within the chamber (26) is above a predetermined threshold value. The control valve (V) is in its second operative condition, in which the inlet side of the vacuum pump (7) communicates with the atmosphere (A), when the pressure within the chamber (26) of the assistance device (25) is below a predetermined threshold value. In this second condition the pump (7) takes air from the atmosphere and feeds air into the atmosphere. In this manner, the energy consumption by the engine which is required for driving the pump is reduced during stages in which within the chamber (26) there is a vacuum sufficient for the regular operation of the braking system. |
