Zusammenfassung:	A fuel pump (20) includes a fuel pump housing (28) with a pumping chamber (38) and an inlet valve bore (70) which extends along an inlet valve bore axis (56). The inlet valve bore (70) is stepped such that the inlet valve bore (70) includes a shoulder (70a) which is traverse to the inlet valve bore axis (56). A pumping plunger (34) reciprocates within a plunger bore (30) along a plunger bore axis (32) such that an intake stroke of the pumping plunger (34) increases volume of the pumping chamber (38) and a compression stroke of the pumping plunger (34) decreases volume of the pumping chamber (38). An inlet valve assembly (40) includes a valve seat (50) with a valve seat flow passage (68) extending therethrough, the valve seat (50) abuts the shoulder (70a) and is urged toward the shoulder (70a) by pressure within the pumping chamber (38) during the compression stroke. The inlet valve assembly (40) also includes a valve member (78) which is moveable between an unseated position and a seated position.
