FLUORESCENCE/PHOSPHORESCENCE DETECTION DEVICE AND FLUORESCENCE/PHOSPHORESCENCE DETECTION METHOD

In order to detect fluorescence and phosphorescence from various sheets, a fluorescence/phosphorescence detector includes: a light source that emits light toward a sheet being transported along a transport path; a light receiver that receives light emitted from the sheet; a memory in which a plurality of kinds of measurement modes are stored; a measurement mode selection unit that selects a measurement mode according to the kind of the sheet; a light source control unit that controls an emission intensity and an emission period of the light source in the measurement mode selected by the measurement mode selection unit; and a data acquisition unit that acquires, from the light receiver, at least one of fluorescence data obtained by measuring the fluorescence and phosphorescence data obtained by measuring the phosphorescence, in the measurement mode selected by the measurement mode selection unit. An emission intensity and an emission period of the light emitted from the light source, a timing and a measurement period to measure the fluorescence by the light receiver, and a timing and a measurement period to measure the phosphorescence by the light receiver are set in each mode.
