Zusammenfassung:	The invention provides a pollution mask. In one aspect, a pressure monitoring system is implemented. The rotation speed of a fan is used to derive a pressure or detect pressure change in the mask air chamber coupled to the fan. This avoids the need for a separate pressure sensor. The pressure across the mask is used to determine if the mask is being worn. In another aspect, signals generated with the fan motor which result from mechanical movement of the fan when it is turned off, caused by breathing of the user, are detected, and used to switch the fan on.
