Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a handling device (102) for handling articles that are flat at least in some sections, in particular a suction traverse, comprising suckers (104), which are arranged in a plane (106) in order to grip workpieces. The suckers (104) are designed to grip a workpiece (108) by means of negative pressure. The suckers (104) can be connected, by means of suction lines (110), to a suction device (112) for controlling the negative pressure. The suckers (104) can be selectively connected to the suction device (112) or disconnected from the suction device (112) individually or in groups by the opening or closing of at least one suction line (110) individually by means of switching devices (114). A control device (116) is designed to actuate one or more of the switching devices (114) for selective opening or closing in accordance with a specifiable operating mode of the handling device (102). The invention further relates to a method for handling articles that are flat at least in some sections by means of such a handling device (102), wherein one or more of the switching devices (114) are actuated for selective opening or closing in accordance with a specifiable operating mode of the handling device (102).
