Zusammenfassung:	A core element (10, 10A-C) of an investment core for use in a casting process used to produce an airfoil (32, 32A-E) includes an investment core body (12, 12A-C), an extension (16, 16A-C) connected to and protruding from the investment core body (12, 12A-C), and a connection portion (14, 14A-C) connected to the investment core body (12, 12A-C) and to the extension (16, 16A-C). The investment core body (12, 12A-C) comprises a ceramic material. A shape of the extension (16, 16A-C) comprises a tube with a centerline axis (CLE) passing through a center of the extension (16, 16A-C). A shape of a cross-section of the extension (16, 16A-C) taken along a plane perpendicular to the extension centerline axis (CLE) comprises an ellipse. The extension (16, 16A-C) is connected to the investment core body (12, 12A-C) by the connection portion (14, 14A-C).
