Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for operating a card and a card. The card comprises a tambour having clothing of a specific type as well as parts which face said clothing and which have a surface structure, wherein the distance between the clothing of the tambour and one or more of the facing parts, and/or a variable which is dependent on said distance, is determined. The tambour is electrically insulated from the facing parts. An electrical capacitance between the tambour and one or more of the facing parts is measured, and the distance, or the variable which is dependent on the distance, is determined from the measured electrical capacitance.
