Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a cooking appliance (2) which includes a lower portion (3) including a lower cooking plate (5); an upper portion (7) including an upper cooking plate (9), the upper portion (7) being hingedly mounted between at least one loading position and at least one cooking position; and a measurement device (13) configured to determine a separation between the lower and upper cooking plates. The measurement device (13) is mounted on one of the lower portion (3) and the upper portion (7), and includes an actuating element (14) configured to engage with the other one of the lower portion (3) and the upper portion (7), and mounted movably between a first position and a second position, the cooking appliance (2) being configured so that a movement of the upper portion (7) between a loading position and a cooking position drives a movement of the actuating element (14) between the first position and the second position; and a measurement element configured to determine the separation between the lower and upper cooking plates (5, 9) in accordance with the position of the actuating element (14).
