A light emitting element (10) includes a semiconductor layered body (13), an insulating film (14), first (11) and second (12) electrodes, first external connecting parts (21) and at least one second external connecting part (22). The semiconductor layered body (13) includes a first semiconductor layer (13n), a light emitting layer (13a), and a second semiconductor layer (13p). The first electrode (11) is connected to the first semiconductor layer (13n) at exposed parts (13b) through openings (14a) in the insulating film (14), and partially arranged on the second semiconductor layer (13p) via the insulating film (14). The first external connecting parts (21) are connected to the first electrode (11). The first external connecting parts (21) are spaced apart from the exposed parts (13b) in a plan view. A group comprising at least one of the first external connecting parts (21) and other group comprising at least one of the first external connecting parts (21) respectively surround adjacent ones of the exposed parts (13b) while being spaced apart from each other in the plan view.
