Zusammenfassung:	A vehicle drive device comprises: a power transmission mechanism transmitting a drive power from a drive power source to a plurality of wheels; a differential gear mechanism provided in the power transmission mechanism and distributing the drive power input from the drive power source to the plurality of wheels; a casing housing the power transmission mechanism; and an oil pump sucking a lubricating oil stored in the casing, and the device drives the oil pump in conjunction with rotation of the differential gear mechanism. In the device, a catch tank storing the lubricating oil is provided in the casing, an introduction path is formed in the casing for introducing the lubricating oil scooped up by the differential gear mechanism during backward running of a vehicle into the catch tank, and a discharge oil passage connected to a discharge port of the oil pump is connected to the catch tank.
