Zusammenfassung:	A device (400) for maintaining a water level in a respiratory humidification component (402), said device comprising:a humidification component having a wall and a base (406) for holding a water volume;a base unit (408) configured to support the humidification component; andat least one sensor (410) positioned external to the humidification component and coupled with the base unit and a control module (420), said at least one sensor configured for sensing water related information in said humidification component and providing said information to said control module, wherein the control module utilizes said water related information to control the operation of a water level control element (418) to maintain a target water level in the humidification component.
