Zusammenfassung:	The description relates to a communication apparatus for use in a hazard area, having a receptacle (4) that has an opening towards the hazard area and in which a transponder element (1) is embedded in a potting compound (5), and having a transmission device connected to the transponder element (1) via a signal line (2). In order to configure a communication apparatus of the type described at the outset such that use in hazardous areas, particularly at high temperatures and high humidity, is made possible, it is proposed that the potting compound (5) in the region of the opening is provided with a heat shield (6) protected against mechanical loading from the hazard area by a retaining element.
