MULTITURN ROTARY ENCODER AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A MULTITURN ROTARY ENCODER

To provide a method for operating a multi-turn rotary encoder.SOLUTION: A clock monitoring device 410 is provided. A measurement clock signal M_CLK and/or a clock signal V_CLK generated from the measurement clock signal M_CLK is supplied to the clock monitoring device 410 for monitoring. The clock monitoring device 410 includes a second clock generator for generating a test clock signal T_CLK, a first comparison device, and an error memory. The test clock signal T_CLK and one clock signal of a plurality of clock signals M_CLK and V_CLK which are to be monitored are supplied to the first comparison device. Comparison of the plurality of supplied clock signals T_CLK, M_CLK, and V_CLK can be executed in the first comparison device, and result of the comparison can be stored in the error memory as status information STAT.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
