POLYMERIC COMPRESSOR WHEEL WITH CO-MOLDED BORE INSERT

A centrifugal compressor wheel assembly (10) that can be employed in devices such as turbochargers or as a component for mechanisms requiring a compressor wheel assembly (10) that includes a tubular insert (112, 12, 212) with a compressor wheel member (16) connected thereto which engages a shaft (24) and a turbocharger (4) including the compressor wheel assembly (10). The tubular insert (112, 12, 212) has a wall member (119, 19, 219) defining a shaft bore (122, 222, 22, 23) that extends from an inlet end (118, 18, 218, 219) to an opposed outlet end (117, 17, 217). The wall member (119, 19, 219) has an outer circumferential surface (121, 21, 221) and an opposed inner circumferential surface (123, 223, 23). At least one engagement member may be defined on the inner circumferential surface (123, 223, 23). An engagement member may be defined on the outer circumferential surface (121, 21, 221). The tubular insert (112, 12, 212) can be composed of a suitable metal.
