The amino groups of the 1,3-diaminocyclohexane are preferably arranged in trans position relative to one another in the plane of the cyclohexane ring. Absorption media for removing carbon dioxide from fluid streams comprise a) a 1,3-diaminocyclohexane of the general formula (I) and b) optionally at least one tertiary amine and/or a sterically hindered primary or secondary amine. In a process for removing carbon dioxide from fluid streams, the absorption medium is brought into contact with a fluid stream.
