The invention relates to a pressure relief device (1) for a battery housing (2), comprising a separating element (3) for separating an inner region (4) of the battery housing (2) from an outer region (5) of the battery housing (2), a holding element (6) for the separating element (3) for the mechanical fixing of the separating element (3) to the battery housing (2), and a plate-like element (7), which, in an installed state, is arranged on the side of the separating element (3) that faces the inner region (4) of the battery housing (2), parallel to the separating element (3). The plate-like element (7) is a) mechanically coupled to the holding element (6) via a plastically or elastically deformable web (8) and has a rectilinear cutout (9) which extends transversely with respect to an axis A; or is b) mechanically coupled to the holding element (6) via a first (8) and a second (8') plastically or elastically deformable web and has a cutout (9) running rectilinearly, the longitudinal axis of which is aligned with a straight line B and which extends within the plate-like element (7), starting from a predefinable distance from the first web (8), as far as a predefinable distance from the second web (8'). The invention further relates to a battery housing (2) comprising the pressure relief device, to a battery having the battery housing (2), and to a method for battery pressure relief.
