DATA CARRIER

The invention relates to a data carrier, e.g., a document of value, comprising a data carrier substrate and a security element applied to the data carrier substrate, wherein the side of the data carrier substrate having the security element defines the front side of the data carrier and the data carrier substrate has, in the area of the security element, areas having increased light transmittance and areas having reduced light transmittance, which together form a first motif; and the security element contains a transparent carrier substrate having a semi-transparent functional layer, wherein the semi-transparent functional layer is designed in such a way that (i) the data carrier has a first, visually detectable color when the front side of the data carrier is observed in incident light and has a second, visually detectable color when observed in transmitted light and (ii) the first motif is not perceptible when the front side of the data carrier is observed in incident light and is perceptible when the data carrier is observed in transmitted light.
