Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a beverage vending machine for producing beverages using a granulate (5) comprising a container (4) for receiving the granules (5), a filling unit (9) for filling the granules(5) into the container (4), and a Drinks preparation unit (3); the machine is characterized in that the beverage vending machine comprises an optical distance measuring device (1) which is adapted tomeasure the level in the container (4) in the form of a distance value based on the travel distance of a light beam (2). The invention further relates to a corresponding method for filling level measurement.
